On a recent Sunday the minister of the church I attend talked to the congregation about a weary laden friend many of us keep close by and protect as if our life depended on it. Reverend Linda talked about how this friend keeps us focused on regrets and missed opportunities. The friend’s name is If Only Ida!
If only ida gone to school. If only ida married younger. If only ida left home sooner. If only ida started writing a book long ago. If only ida …… you fill in the blanks.
Having If Only Ida as a constant companion is exhausting at best. What often happens when someone says, "If only ida…" is they blame time, money, their spouse, lack of education, or any number of things for why they never did what they wanted to do.
The reality is more times than not we are the reason we don’t live our dreams. Sure, there are circumstances that can delay the realization of what we want and even put us on a completely different path. Yet, to find out what is possible there has to be a first step in the direction of one’s vision.
On the other hand, some people expect the realization of their dreams to happen with little effort and when they realize there is effort involved, give up.
Besides If Only Ida, many people live in the Someday Aisle. Someday I’ll go back to school. Someday I’ll begin to meditate. Someday I’ll start eating healthy. Someday I’ll….. you fill in the blanks.
If you doubt what you just read I invite you to notice how often you say, “If Only Ida….” or “Someday I’ll”. “If Only Ida” is the wish that can never be fulfilled. Someday I’ll, is the road to despair.
Whatever your dream, be willing to do something to make it come true. Take a step, no matter how small, in the direction of your dreams manifestation and then leave the outcome to a source greater than yourself. That source is called by many names; God, Higher Power, Universe, to name but a few.
You will find much will be revealed if you are not attached to the means by which your dream will happen. More times than not it will manifest in a way that you may not have thought of. Be open to possibility and opportunity. Raise your awareness to accept that which is put in front of you.
Quite often as we move in the direction of what we think we want, life will reveal to us insights that may encourage us to actually move in a different direction. A direction that is congruent with our life purpose.
Be open to possibility.
