Over the last few days I have been contemplating what it means to really honor who we are. Often we get so caught up in what we think we are supposed to do we actually miss indicators that perhaps we are not on track and would be well served to make changes in what we are doing.
Earlier today I had an "email" conversation with a friend who has been having some health challenges. She went through a period a few months ago in which she was pushing for results in a number of areas in her life, especially in business. Although early on there were indicators that forcing her success was not what was called for, she continued on, choosing to ignore what was happening to her mind, body and spirit. Yet, after a period of time, the indicators that she needed to make some changes became very obvious. Fortunately, she is making the much needed changes to honor herself.
My friend is not alone in what she did to force herself to do things that were not in her best interest at the time. I would venture to say most people do the same thing. I know I have. And yet, over time, I have learned to listen to the messages that I may not be able to hear with my ears, but rather that gentle voice within.
The ironic thing is, at a different time, the actions we have taken that at one point were blocked, may very well be the exact actions we need to take under different conditions.
The reality is, there is a lot that we think we "should" be doing that is not at all what is in our highest good, nor the highest good of those we come in contact with. The more we try to force things to happen the less likely they are to happen. The more we choose to ignore the obvious, the greater our pain is likely to be.
It is when we ignore the signs our bodies, minds and spirits give us we can get off course. Often when we do not pay attention it is because there is so much noise around. Our own noise. It is when we get quiet enough to be guided, what may have been a forced effort can easily become an effortless effort.
If you feel you are getting off course, here are some very simple things that can be done to shift things.
1. Take a silent walk and simply listen to the sounds around you.
2. Sit in nature for a short period of time reflecting on the beauty around you.
3. Check in with yourself throughout your day to get a sense of what your body is telling you.
4. Pray for guidance. A simple prayer is, "Thank you for showing me what your will for me is."
5. Express gratitude. It's amazing how much things can shift when we move into a space of gratitude.
6. Check your motives for why you want what you think you have to have. Is it because it is truly what you want and need or is it ego wanting to impress others.
7. Journal your thoughts. Allow yourself to simply write down whatever surfaces. You will be amazed at how powerful this can be.
May your day be filled with many blessings and may your life be a blessing to many.
