What we read, watch and listen to takes on various dimensions depending on what life experiences we have at any given time. Such is the case with Awakening, the latest work by author, Ping Li.
I was first introduced to Ping’s insightful book during the manuscript phase. Asked to review the book, I found it to be one of the most profound on life purpose that I have read in some time. So much in fact, I posted a review of the book on Amazon.com.
Change awaits at every turn
Recently, my life has gone through many changes the least of which is I broke my ankle while training for a marathon that takes place right around the time of my father’s 82nd birthday. The plan for my parents to join me in Portland for the marathon changed in an instant.
Such is the case with life. Our best laid plans can change with the snap of our fingers.
Accepting I would not participate in this year’s marathon I made necessary adjustments to my daily activities in order to continue conducting business. Although on a more limited basis, it was pretty much business as usual; that is until this past weekend.
Change is a phone call away
With one phone call from my mother my life (as well as that of my entire family) made a change none of us anticipated. My father was admitted to the hospital to undergo a battery of tests.
As it turns out he has advanced stages of cancer. Until the diagnosis I had no idea how many people have gone through similar circumstances with one or both of their parents.
I suppose for most baby boomers we are being called to experience those things we had hoped would stay at bay for an indefinite period of time.
Love is all there is
After the initial shock wore off in what is a very surreal, yet very real, experience I found myself going deep into what this means. The simplest explanation is “in the end all that remains is love.”
Most amazingly are the prayers being sent from around the globe from virtually every religious and spiritual practice by those who have heard about my father's condition. What a blessing.
As I prepared for my trip to my parents home some 400 miles from where I live, I gathered up what I would definitely need; clothes and a few CDs of my favorite music. I wasn’t planning on taking any books for this trip, yet in a flash Ping’s book came to mind. Without much thought I put it in my bag.
Comfort comes in amazing ways
Early this morning I began reading Ping’s book for the second time. Although very profound the first time, I am finding a level of calm in this reading that I had only glimpses of in the first reading.
From the first page I found extreme comfort with Ping’s insights. This is a book of remembering, discovering and awakening of who we really are.
I could not have selected a more perfect book for this time of great uncertainty. The only thing that is certain is the comfort I am feeling in Ping’s words. The book is written in such a way that whomever the words are meant to touch; comfort and bring another level of awareness as to why we are here, will.
With a price tag a bit higher than most books you buy from Amazon, I can assure you it is well worth the investment.
More than the gifts
As with many books being brought to market these days, you will also receive some amazing gifts when you purchase the book.
With or without the gifts, if you feel a tug in your spirit to discover a deeper understanding of why you are here I encourage you to get the book today; especially if uncertainty has knocked at your door.
It is in the uncertainty we are often called to recognize our greatest calling. One that does not involve anything outward, but rather that which we are here to do. Awakening will reveal the answers in a most amazing way.
I am grateful Ping Li answered her calling by writing this book.

Love is all there is Kathleen.
I'm saddened to hear of your
father's cancer.
I'm a baby-boomer too... watching
my parents age, and partly not
liking it because I know that the
same will happen to me.
You attended my 50th Birthday
Bash in March. I actually didn't
handle that well. I didn't like
aging.
I take comfort in the statement
that there are no mistakes in
God's universe. I still don't
like it... but accept it better.
With much love and admiration.

Kathleen
You know exactly what I'd say - it's the same as you would say to me.
You are the love.

Kathleen,
Thank you for sharing so deeply from your heart. We learn so much from each other as we reach out and touch others..and in ways we cannot fathom.
Truly love IS all there is. I thank you for that reminder today and for the insights and recommendation for the book.
May you feel our love, caring, support, and prayers as you read this. Know that you and your family are very close in our hearts right now.
