The heart side of business

In about an hour I will be sharing closing thoughts with those at NAMS3 in Atlanta. The primary topic is Building a Sustainable Business. Over the last three days, 180 people have been attending sessions of virtually every description you can imagine for the type of conference it is; Niche Affiliate Marketing Systems.

It's likely many people will be expecting more about the business side of business from me. Knowing that people are likely filled to the brim with all the great information they have received, I will be talking about a completely different side of business other than sales, affiliate marketing, social networking and other such topics that are absolute importance to running a business.

Rather, I will be sharing insights on the right mindset that is absolutely essential to creating a successful business.

Those is attendance will learn about the two envelopes we are given at birth and what we should do with those.

We will also be exploring the benefits beyond the obvious when running a business using the Internet.

A shift in consciousness

Universally, there is a shift in consciousness. Many have been aware of this for some time. Others are only now realizing this.

For some, their shift came suddenly perhaps through an intense life experience. While for others, it has been a gradual, yet unsettling feeling where they "just know" all is not as they have been led to believe.

There has been a longing for the truth. A truth that is like none other. An awakening that pierces their heart, mind and soul.

Many will remain in a state of quiet discontent, fearful of vocalizing what they know to be true so as not to be judged harshly while others can no longer remain silent.

For anyone who knows that the status quo is no longer acceptable, they are fully aware the time for a shift in consciousness has arrived and they will do all they are called to do to bring this awareness to the surface.Thank you to my dear friend Deb, for sending me this amazing video.

For those who say this way of thinking is sacra-religious, I wonder if they would agree that hate, fear, anger, deceit and disdain are the signs of true religion. Or is it time even for those who have held so tight to those things that have caused separation to review their beliefs and perhaps consider another way?

The time has arrived. Will you answer the calling?

One of the most effective ways to energetically attract money

With many people still feeling ups and downs from the economy, there are countless conversations about how to generate more money.

Amazingly, one of the most effective methods is actually one of the most underutilized. It's the universal law of giving, also known as tithing.

Tithing has many definitions depending on who you ask. Some say you must give to a religious institute, while others say it is where you have been spiritually fed. My belief is it is where I am called to give.

In the truest sense, when we give we must expect nothing in return. And as we give, it is essential to give with a sense of gratitude. Gratitude that we have something to give, gratitude that we are keeping the energetic flow moving and gratitude that we are helping others. Do this and watch what happens.

But remember, resist placing an expectation on how and when anything will come to you. Let it come in its natural order.

As you give, get into the "feeling" of being incredibly blessed. This feeling in and of itself will generate abundance and flow.

Granted, there will be many people who will resist this recommendation because they don't think they can give at this time. Is it that they can't or won't?

Sure, there are some people who are truly strapped due to any number of circumstances. All their money is being used to pay rent, put food on the table, pay bills and such.

However, often when we say we can't give it is that we really don't want to or we fear if we do, we will run out of money. It is the story we have told ourselves and others for so long we absolutely believe it to be true. Perhaps it is time to change the story.

If you are someone who knows how the law of giving and receiving works, you are likely very willing to give.

If you are one who fears there won't be enough or "now" just isn't the right time, I invite you to try one thing that can shift your fear into faith. That is, if you do it in earnest.

For a period of one week, think of one thing you can give up that costs only a few dollars. That's it, one thing.

Maybe it's that cup of coffee at the local cafe. Maybe it's that candy bar or soda you pick up each time you drive by a particular store. Maybe it's the impulse buy you make each time you are standing at the checkout at your grocery store.

It can be just about anything. For one week, take the money you would have spent without really needing to and give it away.

So who or where do you give? There are any number of places; a church, spiritual center, homeless shelter, food pantry, animal rescue, relief effort or even a complete stranger you pass on the street who is asking for help.

One thing that helps greatly in this process is to quiet your mind and sense what your heart is saying. Who might benefit from even a dollar or two?

Remember, you must expect nothing in return. Not from where you give your money nor from any other source. Simply give because you want to give.

When we give in this spirit amazing things do happen. Guaranteed.

Do you react or respond when something triggers you?

In my corner of the world, life is pretty darned good. I have so much gratitude for my personal and professional life. I tend to think I am pretty level headed and am more of a responder to situations than a reactor.

Yet, every so often something will trigger me and I go into reaction mode. It is then that I must stop, breath and ask for guidance.

Amazingly, within a very short period of time, a solution is put in front of me. Sometimes within minutes and even seconds.

Such was the case this morning. As is my usual practice, I spend quite time setting the intention for my day. From there I begin my work day. When I get into my office, I spend the first 45 minutes to an hour doing what I can to monetize my business. Either I work on some aspect of marketing, a new product release, a lesson for my VIP Club, or something along these lines.

Are you defined by your trophies, awards and recognitions?

Several years ago I listened to spiritual teacher, Ram Dass, talk about when he consciously chose to let go of many of his material possessions. He said the freedom he felt was incredible. He reached a point where he didn’t need to define himself by outward evidence.

I found it an interesting concept, but was in no way willing to do this myself. At that point in my life, I had gone through several periods where my material possessions where removed from my life, more by my unconscious actions rather than a conscious chose. These were very painful periods for me which left me confused, feeling like a victim of circumstances and wondering if I would ever turn my life around.

By the time I was thirty, I had acquired enough to feel like I had it going on. Amazingly, after acquiring quite a bit, at that point I did make a conscious choice to let go of my worldly goods and begin a spiritual sabbatical. I had been “in search of” for several years, but this time, I felt a calling to dig deeper.

The journey I was about to begin was one of major self discovery that took me from Berkeley, California to the West Bank of Israel where I lived for the next six months. It took three months to get to Israel from when I first left California.

How clean is your closet?

Earlier today I tackled a project I have been thinking about for quite some time. One of those tasks you know you want to do, but each time you think about what needs to be done, you find excuses. Excuses that eat away at your energy a bit at a time like an ant eating the goodies at a picnic.

After running out of reasons why I just couldn’t do it “today”, I dug in and began the process of cleaning out the closet in my laundry room.

Once started it didn’t take me long to complete the task. Once done, I felt great. So great in fact, I tackled yet another small “Sunday” project.

Rather than simply do the chore, I did double duty by listening to The Attractor Factor (AF) by Joe Vitale. I have long been a fan of Joe’s work, enjoying his views and insights. Today was no exception.

On the particular CD I selected, Joe talked about the excuses people make that prevent them from doing what they really want to do. I smiled as I realized how long I had been making unwarranted excuses as to why I couldn’t get around to organizing the closet.

A life one knows is complete

What would make your life more complete?

It’s likely you have given thought to the things you believe would make your life more complete. Would it be love, respect, compassion, health, companionship?

It has been said that what we want more of, we must be willing to give. And yet, many people are not willing to give the very thing they desire; that which they believe would make their life complete.

Do you want more love? Do you crave love and yet, withhold your own giving of unconditional love?

And respect? Do you give respect to all you encounter?

Your health? Do you maintain behaviors that support living a life filled with health?

The questions can go on and on. The fact remains that what we desire most is usually the thing we are giving the least amount of energy to.

Here’s a very simple process designed to help determine where you likely need to put more energy, focus and care.

Write down the top three things you would like more of. From there, over the next 72 hours notice if you give freely of the very things you listed. If not, what stops you?

This is not about carelessness in what you give, but a consciousness that allows a flow of energy in which that which you give returns tenfold. It is also not about “I give this, therefore I must immediately get something in return.”

It is simply about creating a life in which the things you want are a way of life for you to give in a give freely, responsibly and consciously. It is about the energy of your spirit.

Leave Memories of Appreciation

What would life be like if you could decide moment by moment your state of mind? What if you could have complete control over your response to any situation life holds for you? What if you could live in the space of gratitude and appreciation regardless of the economy, loss, change or uncertainty?

Seem impossible? If not impossible, difficult at best? Living is a state of appreciation no matter what may seem unrealistic and unattainable to many people.

For lots of people it is. Yet for others it is believable, doable and realistic. It is a way of life.

If you’ve ever encountered someone who lives with this type of appreciation you may wonder how it is possible. Unless of course, you are this type of person.

For those who have a deep understanding of how magical life becomes when they live in this space there is no question as to how simple it is.

Then there are those who feel gratitude and appreciation only when things are going their way.

It’s easy to be grateful when all is going our way; there’s money in the bank, food in the refrigerator, a new car in the garage, a winning poker hand, or just about anything that is external stimuli that generates good feelings – at least for a short period of time.

The problem is when the externals are not as we would like, what happens to one’s level of appreciation. For many people, everything goes south. Some quickly move into the poor me syndrome. This is where we feel victimized by events that transpire.

The truth is life is sometimes tough, sometimes hurts, and is sometimes unfair. Different people respond in different ways. Some will immediately move into a space of resentment while others will know that this too shall pass.

So how do they do it? How do those who can stay grateful regardless of outward circumstances keep a deep level of appreciation no matter what?

There are a few simple steps that can be taken to move closer to living this way more times than not.

First, acknowledge it WILL take a conscious effort. After all, if one immediately grows resentful, fearful or angry when things don’t go their way, this is extremely unconscious behavior.

The next thing is to set the intention of how you want to respond to all life has to offer. By setting an intention for a specific response we are more likely to achieve it.

When you are lost for what to do, don’t do anything. Simply be. Be with what is right in front of you.

Each moment of every day is an opportunity to create miracles. Each moment is a moment we create a memory. It can be as simple as being kind to all those we come in contact with because we just happen to be in the space of total appreciation. Perhaps, it is getting outside of our comfort zone to help another because we believe this will make a difference in their day and offer them a level of appreciation. Maybe it’s just being happy to be. Simple as that.

All the moments of our life are the memories we leave behind when our time is done. What memories will you leave?

Would your life change if you won millions of dollars?

For years I have had a recurring fantasy; winning hundreds of millions of dollars in the lottery. How would my life change? What could I do where money would not be a concern? Where would I travel that I have yet to visit? What toys would I buy? And on and on.

A few days ago I had a shift in my thinking. As I drove by a billboard on the side of the freeway indicating what the jackpot is this week, it occurred to me that many people who win the lottery actually end up with numerous problems that didn’t exist prior to winning.

Here are a few examples. One winner, who won twice, ended up living in a trailer after she squandered her $5 million in winnings. Another winner was sued by a former girlfriend for a portion of his prize money. His brother hired a hit man in hopes of inheriting some of the winnings. There are countless stories like these with equally shocking outcomes.

It is a commonly held belief that many of our problems will be solved with enough money. Granted, having money is a whole lot better than not, but if we don’t know how to handle it, having a great deal of money actually becomes more of a problem than not having it.

 If someone does not have the have the consciousness for the increased wealth, in short order they will subconsciously find ways to sabotage their newfound wealth.

Not only does this happen with winning the lottery, it is not uncommon with those who inherit a lump sum of money. It doesn’t matter where the money comes from. What matters is our relationship to the energy of money.

As we change our relationship to money we are in a stronger position to generate more of it. Not only do we attract more money, we also attract other forms of abundance including experiences and feelings of wealth.

Years ago, I knew what it was like to live with poverty thinking. So much in fact, I ended up without a roof over my head or a place to call home. For years I struggled in search of the answer to success and abundance.

It evaded me until it became too painful to keep living the way I was. I immersed myself into books, tapes, seminars, and anything I could get my hands on to help my shift my consciousness. As my consciousness increased, so did my abundance. So much in fact, who I am today is light years away from who I was.

One thing that changed in my consciousness was to realize that having more would allow me to do greater good for others. A major shift occurs when we realize the good our abundance can do for so many.

So how would life change if I won the lottery? Who knows, but I’m willing to find out. Even if I came into a boatload of money, I spent it and ended up where I currently am, that would be a grand place to be. So win or not, I’m okay either way. Now that’s what I call having the winning ticket.

If today were your last day...

If today were your only day, how would you live it? This question was posed today during Sunday Service. A great question to ponder.

As I thought about what I would do differently (if anything), my primary thought was to live more fully in the now. To be  present in each moment as each occurs. To give my best to each situation, each encounter, each experience. This means to live completely in the now.

To live in the now is living in wholeness. When we live in the past or live in the future we are missing out on mucn of what life has to offer.

Granted, it's good to take a walk down memory lane now and again, but not to live is the space of, "If only."

Those who live in, "if only" need simply make different choices to move into "Thank goodness."

The most amazing thing is how simple this can be. It is simply a matter of giving your all to everything you do. Imagine how more complete your days would be if each and every moment you lived with such appreciation, passion and zest, that no matter what were happening, moment by moment your life is complete.

Even though it may seem like we are in this life for a long period, in truth our time on earth is very short. Although measured in years, in a flash it is over. In that moment, were you given the chance to review your life, would you be grateful you treasured each and every moment or would you regret the many moments you wasted in judgment, sorrow, anger, resentment and fear?

The choice truly is yours. Choose wisely.
