Virtually everywhere you turn there is something being
said, written or recorded about the Law of Attraction. People by the millions
are experiencing a shift in consciousness in very profound ways. They are
waking up to their spiritual callings — or so they think.
With the reading of a book or two, watching a DVD or
attending a seminar where the message is “You can have it all; You can create
the life you want by visualizing, affirming and recognizing the power within,”
many are left in a state of ever-deepening confusion when what they so
earnestly attempt to attract is not manifesting. Convinced they must be “doing
it wrong,” they hungrily search for the answer.
Sadly, many people equate spirituality with material
possessions. Spirituality is expressed in many ways. It can be as simple as
doing what we are called to do with no attachment to an outcome. If we are
called to express through art we do so because to shun our gift is to have our
spirit die and deny the world of our expression of beauty. Perhaps the gift of spiritual
writing or tending to our elders or tending to the soil as a trusted servant is
our deepest calling.
Often what we are meant to be doing and where we apply
Law of Attraction strategies are completely different. Although we may claim what we are asking for
is based on spirit, it may actually be based on ego.
Sure, it’s wonderful to be able to manifest great
abundance in order to live a quality life filled with the finer things in life
— a life in which we bless others with our abundance. There is nothing wrong
with this.
But to base our level of spiritual understanding on
outward manifestations is akin to fishing in a sand pile and wondering why we
are not catching anything.
For some, the longer we live the more we realize there
are things we are called to do that may not be in our Law-of-Attraction plans —
the death of a loved one, the loss of a job, an illness, the breakup of a
relationship, a natural disaster, the attack of an enemy who lives in the space
of darkness and evil.
There are some who believe there are no problems, no
enemies and no evil in the world if they just “think” it away. The fact is
there are events in life that can be defined as problems, there are visible
enemies and evil does exist. However, these are the very things that are the
catalyst for miracles. Miracles are
about a shift in consciousness,
The shift begins not on a global level, but rather on
an individual level.
It is a shift in our consciousness that can begin the
miracle of healing. It’s not in the denial that something exists where we can
create miracles, it is in the recognition of the truth where we willingly do
what we can to initiate change.
As an avid student, believer and teacher in the power
of what we focus on manifesting in greater degrees, I also know there are times
life will throw something at me that I had no conscious intention of
attracting.
There are some situations that have nothing to do with
conscious creation, but rather subconscious creation of those things that allow
us to be directed more to our life’s work and purpose. Whether we realize it or
not, these situations are often exactly what we wanted to attract in order to
have more substance, depth and meaning to our life.
“No” is the battle cry of many. “I would never have
asked for this.”
Think about it. Perhaps you asked for more compassion,
and the illness of a family member revealed a level of kindness you never knew
you had. Maybe you affirmed you needed to slow down, and a slight accident gave
you exactly what you asked for. Possibly you wanted to give more of your time
to a worthy cause, and by responding to the needs of a homeless family you did
just that.
It is during some of the most difficult, painful and
life-altering experiences that we are called to live life on life’s terms, all
the while fulfilling a deeper part of who we are.
When we recognize that daily we are called to live life
on life’s terms, life truly becomes more manageable. Rather than attempting to
attract something merely to fulfill the ego’s need to affirm how wonderful we
are, when we ask to be led to those things which make us useful to others, we
attract the very experiences that offer us exactly what we asked for.
Ultimately, it is in the ability to live in the space
of gratitude, regardless of outward circumstances, that we are shown
the deepest meaning of the Law of Attraction.
In gratitude we are open to love — the kind of pure
love that creates all miracles, the kind that are heart-driven rather than
ego-based; miracles that create the tapestry of our life in ways that regardless
of when our time in the physical vessel is over, the memories we leave behind
are the continuum of love.
May your days be filled with miracles based on the
manifestation of love.

It's amazing to me that people still think the Law of Attraction is simply about thinking and feeling their way into manifesting what they want. There is so much more to it than that. You must be coming from your soul's purpose...manifesting the right things...and then also taking action to bring what you want into the world. Additionally, it's not just about receiving. It's about giving. Few people talk about this.

It's amazing to me how many people are NOT listening at all to the Law of Attraction. I think this should be incorporated into required school curricula beginning in first grade! I especially appreciate your reminder that it's living in the space of gratitude that opens us to love. I agree wholeheartedly and I thank you for this post! It was a perfect message for me today.
