A couple of months ago I joined a writer's group consisting of caregivers to a family member. It was a short term writing program which allowed the small group of members to share thoughts on different aspects of life, care giving, frustrations, joys, stress or whatever was prevalent at the time.
Something we were invited to write on is - I promise myself...
It didn't take but a few minutes to put my thoughts into words in that I have given this a great deal of thought during the time I have experienced being a primary caregiver to a family member.
Here's what I promise myself...
I promise myself to continue
to eat healthy on a daily basis. With all I have witnessed over the
last year in the health care system I will do all I can to avoid the
need to rely on the inconsistencies of doctors and nurses.
I promise myself to exercise on a daily basis. The time I take to do
this allows me to get very centered and gain insights and clarity I
otherwise would not have due to overwork and stress.
I promise myself to daily pray and meditate to keep a very close connection and awareness with source.
I promise
myself to be as loving as I can to all I come in contact with. Even
those people who do not "comply" to my way of viewing the world.
I
promise myself to be compassionate and caring regardless of what another
does that may not fit my model of right and wrong.
I promise myself to appreciate and give thanks on a daily basis; to
stay in the space of gratitude and love.
I promise myself not to
take life so seriously, to keep an open state of mind, to follow my
dreams while life allows me the health, vitality and vision to do so.
I promise myself to love my family as deeply as I know how and if I
should forget, I promise myself to forgive myself for simply being
human.
I promise myself to live fully, love deeply, play
joyfully, live life the best way I know how - in the moment.
What do you promise yourself...
